What is a Vape Tank?

A vape tank is a component that holds your vaping liquid and the coil, which heats the liquid to produce vapor. Most tanks have a 510 connector, a small threaded piece at the bottom of the tank. This connector allows you to attach the tank to your battery and enables the flow of charge between the two. The advantage of the 510 connector is that many brands have the same feature, allowing you to mix and match different parts of your vape kit. For example, you can combine a SMOK tank with a Vaporesso mod.

Vape tanks consist of several components, including the drip tip, top cap, glass cylinder, base, and vape coil. The drip tip is the part you put in your mouth to vape and comes in different sizes depending on your preference for flavor or vapor production. It is attached to the top cap, which is the part that opens for you to fill the tank with e-liquid. The glass cylinder holds the vape juice and is located between the top cap and base. The base usually contains the connector that links the tank to the battery and serves as the air vent. Inside all of these components is the coil, which heats the vape juice.

There are three main types of vape tanks available: regular tanks (sub-ohm or mouth-to-lung), RDAs, and RTAs. Regular tanks are designed to accommodate a coil that you can either drop in or screw into place. They are convenient for those who want a hassle-free option and prefer to use pre-made coils. RDAs (rebuildable dripping atomizers) are more suitable for experienced users as they require building your own coils using wire or mesh and cotton. With RDAs, you need to drip e-liquid directly onto the cotton instead of relying on a tank to supply the liquid. RTAs have a similar design to RDAs, but they also include a tank, eliminating the need for frequent refilling of the wicking material with e-liquid.

How does a vape tank work?

A vape tank, also known as an atomizer, is a component of your vaping device that holds the e-liquid and the coil. Most tanks are designed with a top fill feature, allowing you to pour the e-liquid through a small slot or around the coil.

Once the tank is filled, the e-liquid saturates the coil. When you inhale or press the firing button (depending on the style of your vape), the battery activates and heats the coil. As the wire or mesh inside the coil heats up, it warms the cotton surrounding it, transforming the e-liquid into the vapor that you inhale. While the majority of atomizers have bottom coils, some may have double or top coils.

What are the distinctions between MTL tanks and Sub Ohm Tanks?

The primary difference lies in the vaping technique employed. MTL tanks are ideal for former smokers who desire a vaping experience similar to that of traditional cigarettes. To achieve this, you draw the vapor into your mouth first and then inhale it into your lungs. MTL tanks generally provide more flavor but produce less dense vapor. On the other hand, Sub Ohm tanks are designed to generate massive amounts of vapor and are equipped with coils that have very low resistance (less than one Ohm).
